The Centre for African Studies at the University of Basel invites applications for two three-year positions in Social Anthropology or African Studies funded by the Humer Foundation for Academic Talent.

Eligibility: You must meet the following requirements to be eligible:

hold an excellent Master’s degree or equivalent qualification in Social Anthropology or a related discipline; present an original idea for a research project relating to sexuality, mobility, and political economy; have excellent research and writing skills; commit fully to their PhD project during the funding period and aim to complete their project within the said period; meet the requirements for admission to PhD studies at the University of Basel

  1. a curriculum vitae (no more than two pages, with a list of publications if applicable);
  2. a brief proposal (1500-2500 words) on sexuality, mobility, and political economy
  3. copies of undergraduate and postgraduate diplomas with transcripts (please keep in mind that the overall grade for the Master’s degree is relevant for admission);
  4. the names and contact information for two referees (university professors or lecturers);
  5. one or two writing samples (master’s thesis or equivalent)
